History
Well, some people claim that the world was left here by God which seems like a very noble thing for him/her to have done. Other people reckon that the universe spunked itself into being like a jackson pollock spatter across the black canvas that is the ever expanding universe.
I'm not sure.
All I know is that history is a very vague thing to come to terms with. It all relies on people's opinions and hearsay and equal parts tragedy, comedy and something else, I guess.
Out of all of us Superstringers, Mr Chris was born first. I was probably next and, after that, I get a bit vague with the order of things. See what I mean...? History - it all depends who's writing it. This is the first official 'biography' of 'us' and I'm sure it will be rewritten as soon as one of the others sees it. But, for now, I'm in charge...
Music, as well as art, has existed since the dawn of time. Early cave paintings left by our neolithic ancestors show the dawning of awareness, scrawled in pictorial splendour - a gift to our future selves. Early cro-magnon man's musical offerings, however, have not stood the test of time as well, with all CD's having rotted away in the early 500,000 years BC (Before Chris)
We Superstringers are proud of our musical heritage and have dedicated the best part of our lives in search of the glorious sound. It may seem pretentious, but without music where would we be? Everything would be quiet and that would suck immensely.
As far as I can make out, here are the facts:
We live by the seaside in a rather tacky ruin of a town named Blackpool. All of us have been playing in bands for as long as we've been able to play music - essentially, we're a veritable supergroup made up of former members of Nexus, Iota, Cuzak and Chang.
Me and Oz held a vodka challenge one evening which resulted in us forming a 'duo', I guess. We wrote a song which was included in the soundtrack (and used over the end credits) for the independent film The Dead Room. Soon after, we had the pleasure of introducing a second guitarist called Simon, who brought his own crazy brand of space-rock noodling to our lo-fi acoustic maudlin-isms. Soon, people were coming to gigs singing and dancing like idiots and we were still only playing acoustic venues. Something had to be done, so we drafted in our greatest friends and allies from our previous musical ventures. Enter: Mr Chris on bass guitar and Jonny Stabber on drums and percussion.
Our first and second gigs were performed at the prestigious Rockquest Competition which we duly won, and walked off with a hefty sum of money and some free guitars. Now this, we thought, is interesting.
The people who had loved the acoustic 'String initially said we'd sold out, like Dylan or Steps. But soon, they were dancing and singing like idiots again. We recorded an EP (The Smaquehead EP, 2004), then misplaced Simon somewhere. In a panic, we replaced him with another guitarist, also called Simon to ease confusion.
With Simon's help, we recorded the follow-up album to the Smaquehead EP. "Meanwhile... Back at The Ranch" was released in April 2006 and, frankly, it's pretty good. If you don't believe me, look here: Bitter Sweet Embrace Review
Recently, we came to a decision with the other Simon to let him move out of the limelight and into the recording studio full time. He was replaced by the affable and lovely Chris Tominey from the affable and lovely Iota.
We're currently writing and recording the follow-up album, so keep your eyes posted on the News page, cuz there's gunna be some gigs and recordings and videos and all manner of stuff that you're just gunna love!!
I'll re-write this tomorrow when I'm sober.
Much love, Bean. |
